Immunization coverage declined in Burundi between 2019 and 2022 and many provinces had coverages below the national average for most antigens in 2023.

A review of relevant documents revealed that weak coordination, ownership and management, and poor data use for decision making among other factors are contributing to the declining immunization performance.

As a result, Gavi engaged the Solina Consortium to strengthen the leadership, and management capacities at the provincial and district levels, improve the communication between levels (Central, provincial and district) and strengthen the use of data for decision-making between 2024 and 2025
